Hazy Summer Sun - An Evening Amongst the Gold

As the evenings get darker and the mornings cooler, I am holding on to the moments of sunshine we've had this summer. Just before the wheat in the field behind us was harvested, we managed to go and spend an evening investigating its golden beauty and the tiny sheaves almost ready to carry on their journey.

It has been magical to watch the wheat grow, from nothing but tiny shoots, to a field of gold, the children and I have loved watching the tractors as they drive up and down the fields.

We were a little miffed to have missed the combine harvesters and the actual harvesting itself, however, we were there to watch as the tractors swept up the leftovers and bundled them into perfectly rectangular parcels.

Late into the night they worked, picking up and building a huge hay castle, it was truly magical and should they go ahead and build on the land, we will miss watching the earth change through the seasons. But for now we will enjoy whatever grows there, last year was a beautiful field of oilseed, it’s bright yellow flowers swishing in the wind and turning into tiny rattling pods.

As the nights draw in we look forward to candle lit evenings and snuggly jumpers, blankets and stews, but for now, I hope I can get a few more wears out of my sandals and summer dresses and the children out of some of their clothes, for next year they will no doubt be too small.

What have you been up to this summer?

An Evening Stroll

I have mentioned the fields of gold behind our house before, they are slowly fading, but we have managed to get out and walk through them a few times.

A familiar sight we had seen driving in the car, but one we had never really got to explore. In our new home that has changed and we get to see the beautiful fields behind us as they grow and change.

We got to stop and look at the seed pods, it was great to see the actual part of the plant they make into the oil.

I love the fields they look so beautiful, especially when the sun is shining on them.

We carried on walking to see what was further round the corner and if we could get to Bestwood Country Park from the top of the hill. We couldn't but it did mean that we got to play with our shadows, I love how these two can be at each other one minute and the best of friends playing nicely the next.

From the top of the hill you can see for miles, we could see planes coming in to land at East Midlands  Airport and the cooling towers at Radcliffe on Soar, which are about 12 miles away.

There are more fields beyond these and we can't wait to see what they've got growing in them, we know we can get in to Bestwood Country Park from just a bit further down the road, so once the weather gets nicer we will take a long walk over there.

Our Own Fields of Gold

At some point I will get round to writing about the new house and showing you snippets of our new home.

But for now, there is something more beautiful going on behind it, waves of beautiful yellow flowers spread across the fields behind our new home.

We took the camera and headed out into the evening sunshine to run amongst the beautiful fields of yellow.

The children absolutely loved running amongst the oilseed, pushing their way through the delicate flowers trying to be careful but falling over in the process.

It was divine to watch them run so carefree through the field, enjoying being children and having so little to worry about.

How wonderful it would be to run so free, maybe next time I will put down my camera and run with them!

Note: I have had to change the actual name of the plant in this because a certain social media platform didn't like it's actual name!
