Beautiful Nature - A Walk Amongst the Bluebells

I love this time of year, the beautiful blossom, bluebells and fields of yellow are all signs that summer is on its way.

We have some wonderful woodlands around Nottinghamshire and one place we have been a few times is Bunny wood, named as one of Britains best woodlands for bluebells and I couldn't agree more.

As we headed down the winding paths, dappled in sunlight, we passed piles of logs and instantly broke in to The Gruffalo, the sun cast a wonderful warm glow on us and it was a pleasure to walk through the woods, listening to the birds as they twittered away.

We stopped and looked at the bright yellow fields of oilseed and took a few pictures, these two melt my heart with there love for each other, even if they can spend hours bickering. When it all comes down to it, they love each other.

We stopped to look at the fungi growing from the trees, making note of it so we could look it up in my sons nature book later, we did and it is called a Dryad's Saddle

The children found a fairy door in the bottom of a tree and stopped to see if anyone was home, this is what I love about woodland walks, they offer up so much for your imagination.

With few people around they allow you to be silly, take your time and not worry about what is happening in the world.

Bluebells at Rufford Abbey

Spring brings us a time when the countryside and woodlands are filled with beautiful bluebells, these enticing blue flowers carpet the ground between the trees and make theses places even more inviting to explore.

With sunshine a plenty, we ventured over to the wonderful Rufford Abbey, it is a favourite spot of ours and as it's just 20 minutes up the road from us, it is a great place to head out for some time outside. With woodland, a ford, plenty of bird spotting opportunities, a park and gardens there is so much to do.

We headed out into the woods in search of some old logs on the woodland floor, they are great places to find bugs and little creatures, especially this time of the year as they start to come out of their winter slumber.

The woods are a great opportunity to explore and capture some beautiful moments, both of my children love to run and jump about, finding old tree stumps to stand on, we even found a tree that had fallen over and it was a beautiful opportunity to capture some family photos.

This time of year, as the trees start to unfurl their new leaves it and a wave of green washes over the land, is a great time to get out into the fresh air and embrace the outdoors.

After we'd spent an hour exploring the bluebells and woodland, we headed down to our other favourite spot, the ford, for a spot of car watching, we had a warm sausage roll for lunch and then headed back round the lake to park.

The park is always a hit with the children, who love to run through the tunnels and play in the sand. We took a wander back up to the abbey itself, underneath, there are rooms which were once home to the monks and staff who lived and worked in the once great house that also stood there. It's a great place to stop and learn about the history of the abbey and its visitors over the years, which included Charles II.

Wherever you live, I would highly recommend a visit to one of this countries many bluebell woods, last year we visited Bunny Wood and that was a true delight, with a vast blanket of bluebells to explore. I never appreciated them when I was younger, even though the woods near where we used to have a caravan were covered in them. Maybe like a lot of things in life they are something to be appreciated as you get older.

A Walk Amongst The Bluebells

The last Bank Holiday weekend was, in traditional British style, a bit rubbish on the weather front. With on and off rain over most of the weekend, so when we saw that Monday would be brighter, we took advantage of this and went out to walk amongst the bluebells.

Bunny Wood is in the top 10 bluebell woods in the country, it's not too far from us and is somewhere I remember visiting with my mum and dad when I was younger.

We started off down the path and found a pond, it was teeming with tadpoles and pond skaters so we spent a few minutes looking for them all, then off we went to find the bluebells.

The floor was carpeted with bluebells, it was as far as the eye could see and just stunning!

With lots of different paths to follow, we were spoilt for choice, there were also little bridges and some hills, so it was an exciting walk. My daughter had chosen to dress as a fairy so there were lots of comments from other walkers, which was lovely.

With so many other flowers and blossoms out there were lots to see, and with so many birds tweeting it was a lovely sensory experience.

If you are local to Nottingham I can highly recommend a trip here before the bluebells disappear for the year, mixed in with so many other wildflowers like these buttercups it was so very pretty.

We had an absolutely wonderful time exploring the woods, looking for bugs and birds, there were even butterflies flying around, it was fantastic.
